Google's reCaptcha cracked?

A few days ago I read about reCaptcha cracked on slashdot. I hope Google's reCaptcha come up with an answer or at least a clarification.

Right now I think tinymailto.com is safe, but maybe some extra checks are needed.

BTW, did you know Google purchased reCaptcha.net? ;)

update: spell checked

Some DB updates

Added some updates to the DB to support "edit log" and "deletion"

Default captcha: recaptcha.net

Hi,

it has been a while.

Today I changed the default captcha to recaptcha.net.

Meanwhile, I will add an URL so that you link to a default captcha test for your tinymailto code.

AddThis button added for social bookmarks

Just added an AddThis button for the sites sharing or bookmark.

New Tinymailto version: 18-aug-2008 !

There is a new version of tinymailto!

The changelog include:

• captcha verification when creating a new tinymailto URL (found some strange emails in the DB)

• friendly URLs for main sections of the site (because they are cool)

• migrated to latest phpsf framework version(more info later)
• reference adsense deleted since it is deprecated by Google (that Firefox ad)
• typos corrected, thanks to Ryan from Chimoosoft
• tech info about the site updated

Please report any feedback, many thanks!

Hoststats enabled again

The account from hosttracker.com was suspended because I had more than 2 URL in the trial account. I switched to the Free account and not it is working again.

Tinymailto slashdotted! Well, sort of ...

Tinymailto is currently on godaddy after a link to the site appeared on the front page of Slashdot:

http://it.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/04/12/1737218

The response should much better, like 150ms more responsible and much much faster download rate.

Also, uptime should be near 99,99% now ;)

New tinymailto version

There is a new version of tinymailto uploaded today, version 21-jan-2008.

The new version include:

• spellcheck/typo update, thank to Ryan from http://www.chimoosoft.com/ for the detailed email containing all the corrections

• a link back to the referrer page, as suggested by Daniele from http://www.bitlet.org/

• new about page, reflecting the actual status of tinymailto (no more an experiment)
• new retrieved page, a smaller page
• form input enhancement: size, javascript focus, tabindex(don't focus on the image)
• new top message on all pages: appears after you create a new tinymailto URL and in the case you click another link and forgot what your tinymailto URL code were

• PHP5 ready: this version works fine on PHP5, the version that will be used on godaddy hosting in the coming months (if all goes well)

I hope you like it, and please send me any kind of feedback and wish lists, here in the blog or via the about page. Thanks

Enjoy!

Happy 2008 Stats!

Happy New Year 2008!

Here are some stats from tinymailto.com since the start until today:

• 457 tinymailto URL created
• 13836 page views

Moving to godaddy, maybe ...

I'm planning to move tinymailto to a godaddy account in 2008.
If all goes well, and I have the extra money left, I think it would be a good thing to move to a dedicated hosting plan.

Our current hosting has a nice uptime(not perfect), but the bandwidth is a little limited.

Paypal button

Its has been a while since the last post. I has been traveling(work related) and meanwhile my tinymailto ToDo list has grown a little bit :)

Today I added a paypal.com button, if anyone is interested in doing a donation. Amounts starting at $1 are welcome :)

Domain payed for 2007/2008

Just payed the domain tinymailto.com for another year!
Also, the first aniversary of tinymailto.com is comming next 6/8/7 (06-aug-2007)

Captcha tunning

The captcha used in tinymailto.com is kcaptcha, I changed some parameters and upgraded the version to the latest, version 1.2.4
Now it uses only 4 letters/numbers and the background color is the same as the page

Nedstats/Motigo deprecated!

I delete the counter of motigo(formelly nedstat) because now they show ads without your permission!!!

"With the use of motigo products and services on the site it is accepted that WMS has the right to place advertisements on the site in any format or through any channel, including but not limited to e-mail, layer ads, pops, banners and other usual formats without any forewarning and it is furthermore accepted that WMS takes no responsibility for the advertising content and that WMS shall not be liable for any losses incurred regarding this advertising."

Motigo sucks :(

Web uptime monitoring

Just added a web server uptime monitoring in tinymailto.com

The service is provided for free by http://host-tracker.com/
Is really an usefull site, so I recommend it. It has monitoring rate up to 1 minute, and reports from dially to anual basis.

A few days ago it seems that all Internet in my country went down, I have another server on another ISP and suffered the same downtime in the same timeframe.

Hope it helps

Feb-2007 stats
