Nov-2006 Stats

Hi all,
the tinymailto stats posts are a little out of date. Here are some numbers:
  • tinymailto URLs created: 226
  • pageviews: 7,279 (google analitics)
  • average visits per day: 15 visits
The page views stats are normalized in previous months, and the visits per day are low but constant.

tinymailto keep going fine, we have 209 URL created so far!

The site is much faster without google adsense, also looks a little better. No news yet about the ajax idea, I hope to get some time soon.

Adsense no more + ajax popup

I'm planning deprecating the Adsense for, so it will load a little bit faster.
The Firefox button should stay.

More ideas - ajax popup
I'm planning learning about AJAX in the near future, I'm choosing a book right now. My idea is to put in your page.
A click on you URL will popup a litle window pointing to, you will only have to enter the captcha and there you go, your email is clickable.
If the user closes the popup, he must do all over again.
The popup will not be a window, but a html element, something like: amazon wish list popup, google calendar dialog popup for: adding a calendar, "do you want to delete your calendar", etc
That's all the brainstorming for now ..., 5 weeks later

This is the weekly report. Starting from today, I'm planning reporting once a month. So I will have a little more time on sundays for playing games or the familly ;)

Traffic is stabilizing after the masive visitors from, for example, until today we have 192 URLs created.

We have now like 60-70 visits por week.

Until next month, bye

Developer diaries #1

This post is just for giving a little information about the site programming decisions.

BD: for the database I used Mysql 4 with InnoDB. No triggers were necessary.
Security: I use the PHP safe_mode and open_basedir options. Also, I parse all input, especially the page names.

... more to come

At last, I have more stats now:
All these numbers are totals, from 06-aug-2006 until now.

I have to say that 67% of the traffic comes from, thats why I added the stumbleupon button in the site. I didn't knew until I looked at the stats and I never posted anything in, so a big thanks goes for the site and users ;)

little spellcheks update

Just updated the about, help and start page with some spellcheck corrections.
Also added a new item in the FAQ, which is the same as the line added in the start page. In the about page added links to all online services used in the site.

I'm planning to post another report this sunday, that is, in the 2nd week since tinymailto launch date.

Thanks to Ale and Migs for the english corrections. Thanks to these feedbacks, I noted that nvu misses some words while doing the spellcheck. I had to manually select all the text and then click on the spellcheck button.

P.D.: I'm just loving the new Blogger beta!

tinymailto fever

The site is starting to have more and more traffic, I keep watching the webserver access log like crazy. This is nice, but I can't concentrate much in my actual job :)

So, I will try not to look at the web server access log or the google analitics web stats for a few days. That means, I need to "Ctrl+C" that "tail -f access_log" process.

See you again in a couple of days ...

I noted that too much hits come from, so I added a StumbleUpon banner on the web site. I got the buttom from the button page at stumbleupon.
I'm downloading the stumbleupon firefox extension as I write ;)

Another blackout

Once again, today we had a electricity blackout, from 1140 to 1755 EST (GMT-4) :(
Sorry for the website downtime. This kind of extended blackout are not normal, it seems that the electricity company had a problem with the new installation of new wires last thursday.

" let you convert your e-mail address into an URL that is protected from spammers by a captcha test.

You can use a tinymailto URL to put it in public places, like web pages, forum/e-mail signatures, etc. If someone wants to get your e-mail address, the person must pass a Captcha test in order to view and use your e-mail address.
This way, you can protect your e-mail address from spammers and web robots (web-bots). "

Tinymailto server online

The server is back online!
If you still see the temporary page, please wait until your DNS server get automatically updated.

tinymailto server offline

Today there is a big downtime scheduled to last 8 hours. Starting at 0800 EST time until 1600 EST time (EST time is GMT-4 now).
This downtime is because of a big re-wiring at the streets is done by the electric company.

This re-wiring event has never ocurred in all my live, so its a pretty un-usual event from the electric company. Its a city wide re-wiring and I hope the new wires in the streets will last another few decades too.

Sorry for the problem this may cause :(
