There is a new version of tinymailto!

The changelog include:
  • reCaptcha is available for captcha verification(as seen on Slashdot)

  • migrated to latest phpsf framework version(more info later)
  • reference adsense deleted since it is deprecated by Google (that Firefox ad)
  • typos corrected, thanks to Ryan from Chimoosoft
  • tech info about the site updated
Please report any feedback, many thanks!

New tinymailto version

There is a new version of tinymailto uploaded today, version 21-jan-2008.

The new version include:
  • spellcheck/typo update, thank to Ryan from http://www.chimoosoft.com/ for the detailed email containing all the corrections
  • a link back to the referrer page, as suggested by Daniele from http://www.bitlet.org/
  • new about page, reflecting the actual status of tinymailto (no more an experiment)
  • new retrieved page, a smaller page
  • form input enhancement: size, javascript focus, tabindex(don't focus on the image)
  • new top message on all pages: appears after you create a new tinymailto URL and in the case you click another link and forgot what your tinymailto URL code were
  • PHP5 ready: this version works fine on PHP5, the version that will be used on godaddy hosting in the coming months (if all goes well)
I hope you like it, and please send me any kind of feedback and wish lists, here in the blog or via the about page. Thanks

Enjoy!

Moving to godaddy, maybe ...

I'm planning to move tinymailto to a godaddy account in 2008.
If all goes well, and I have the extra money left, I think it would be a good thing to move to a dedicated hosting plan.

Our current hosting has a nice uptime(not perfect), but the bandwidth is a little limited.

Captcha tunning

The captcha used in tinymailto.com is kcaptcha, I changed some parameters and upgraded the version to the latest, version 1.2.4
Now it uses only 4 letters/numbers and the background color is the same as the page

Web uptime monitoring

Just added a web server uptime monitoring in tinymailto.com

The service is provided for free by http://host-tracker.com/
Is really an usefull site, so I recommend it. It has monitoring rate up to 1 minute, and reports from dially to anual basis.

A few days ago it seems that all Internet in my country went down, I have another server on another ISP and suffered the same downtime in the same timeframe.

Hope it helps

Adsense no more + ajax popup

I'm planning deprecating the Adsense for tinymailto.com, so it will load a little bit faster.
The Firefox button should stay.

More ideas - ajax popup
I'm planning learning about AJAX in the near future, I'm choosing a book right now. My idea is to put tinymailto.com in your page.
A click on you tinymailto.com URL will popup a litle window pointing to tinymail.com, you will only have to enter the captcha and there you go, your email is clickable.
If the user closes the popup, he must do all over again.
The popup will not be a window, but a html element, something like: amazon wish list popup, google calendar dialog popup for: adding a calendar, "do you want to delete your calendar", etc
That's all the brainstorming for now ...

little spellcheks update

Just updated the about, help and start page with some spellcheck corrections.
Also added a new item in the FAQ, which is the same as the line added in the start page. In the about page added links to all online services used in the site.

I'm planning to post another report this sunday, that is, in the 2nd week since tinymailto launch date.

Thanks to Ale and Migs for the english corrections. Thanks to these feedbacks, I noted that nvu misses some words while doing the spellcheck. I had to manually select all the text and then click on the spellcheck button.

P.D.: I'm just loving the new Blogger beta!

stumbleupon.com

I noted that too much hits come from www.stumbleupon.com, so I added a StumbleUpon banner on the tinymailto.com web site. I got the buttom from the button page at stumbleupon.
I'm downloading the stumbleupon firefox extension as I write ;)

About tinymailto.com

From tinymailto.com:

You can use a tinymailto URL to put it in public places, like web pages, forum/e-mail signatures, etc. If someone wants to get your e-mail address, the person must pass a Captcha test in order to view and use your e-mail address.
This way, you can protect your e-mail address from spammers and web robots (web-bots). "
